The Norber Erratic field is an almost unearthly sight. Hundreds of huge
boulders have been carried from higher up the Crummackdale valley by glaciers
and dumped here in an act of cosmic untidiness. The erratic boulders are
made of far sterner stuff than the limestone on which they lie. So the
intervening years have worn away the limestone to tiny pedestals on which
many of the boulders are still precariously perched. You can visit this
strange place from Clapham in Walk 5 on the Ingleborough Triangle CD-ROM. |
