June 2000 The Greenburn Valley lies between the Coniston Fells and
Little Langdale. As with many valleys in this area the valley is served
by an excellent track which is there because of previous mining activities.
In this picture, looking towards the head of the valley, you can see Wetherlam
on the left, with the less visited peak of Great Carrs in the distance.
We presume that the "Green" in Greenburn is due to grass, moss, and bracken,
and is nothing to do with copper in the stream (which
is the normal
colour).
