| Amazingly
the Lune breaks through the mountain ridge connecting the Lake District
to the Pennines at the Lune Gorge close to Tebay. There are good geological
reasons for this which won't fit in here! But, where the river goes, so
does man. A Roman road ran through here, and there is a Roman fort right
by the farmhouse in the middle of the photo. Today we have two roads, a
motorway, and a railway line!
