| 7th
November 2001 I'm a lucky man! I had a business meeting in Oviedo, Asturias,
Spain on 5-6th November 2001, so I took the rest of the week as holiday,
staying in Potes to the south of the fantastic Picos de Europa, with every
intention of climbing a Pico. The weather forecast had been poor, but the
7th and most of the 8th were magnificent walking weather. Unfortunately,
worn out by travelling and work, I slept in on the 7th. I drove up to nearby
Brez, at about 700 m, to give myself a good start - I needed it at 2 pm!
However I packed too much in my rucksack and my attempt to climb via the
"canale" in the centre of the photo failed at about 2000 m, partly because
it was so steep and incessant scree, because it was getting near
sunset, because I was by myself with no-one else in sight, but mainly
because I was knackered! But the views in the setting sun were magnificent!
