November 2001 Having failed to get to the top of anything yesterday (carrying
too much and setting off too late!) I went to Fuente De, itself 1000
m above sea level, where there is a cable car which can take you to an
altitude of 1800 m, and the start of some excellent high level walks. But
not today - closed for repair. So I legged it up to about 2100 m, at which
stage I was met by an arctic gale, rapidly falling cloud, rain, and the
threat of snow (it did snow later). So - being by myself and with the few
visible walkers going fast in the opposite direction I retreated, thwarted
again, muttering something about "discretion being the better part of valour".
Manana!
