September 2002 - You may think that Lakes were an essential part of the
habitat of Lake District ponies - but not so. They are kept in numerous
areas on the fringes of the Lake District. They are sometimes very tame,
and will open conversations with passing walkers, usually about sandwiches
and packed lunches.
