September 2001 The valley of Kingsdale in the Yorkshire Dales is full of
Pot Holes - natural shafts falling into the limestone below. Some are safely
fenced off, but Rowton Pot is not, and both entrances have substantial
drops. The nearer on this picture has a free fall of over 200 feet, while
the further entrance is not as shear, but those are the tops of tall trees
that you can see! From the far side you can (with considerable care) see
a waterfall in the pothole, but keep children and dogs sedated or bound
and gagged! Rowton Pot is a SERIOUS pothole - don't go in!
