THE CONISTON FELLS  - Walk 14
Except sections 5 & 6 paths are fairly clear. There are several rough and steep parts.
SD 303976 Coniston to Walna Scar Road From Tourist Information Centre past the church to main road, turn left, and then right up hill. Road becomes steep and narrow, signposted to "Old Man" leading to gate to track on open moorland (SD 289971).

SD 289971 Walna Scar Road to Pudding Stone Turn right (NW) and follow good track for 1 Km. Cross main track to Old Man at SD 284981 to mine track then path to Pudding Stone.

SD 281984 Pudding Stone to Coniston Old Man  Either return to main track or climb steep hill to old mine buildings at SD 279982, follow track left (E) to join main track at SD 292981. Turn right along much-used track up to Low Water, then to Coniston Old Man.

SD 273977 Coniston Old Man to Swirl How  Follow clear track NW swinging north over Brim Fell. Good views west of Seathwaite Tarn. Descend then climb Great How Crags with good views of Levers Water (east) and on to Swirl How summit.

NY 273006 Swirl How to Grey Friar  Take path west from summit swinging north around craggy Broad Slack to Great Carrs. From Great Carrs head WSW on faint path becoming clearer climbing Grey Friar. 

NY 260004 Grey Friar to Levers Water Retrace steps to saddle between Grey Friar and Great Carrs. Either return over Swirl How or take right hand path where path splits in three. Faint path traverses Swirl How to Levers Hawse (SD 271994). Small cairn marks descent east to Levers Water.

SD 276993 Levers Water to Coniston Follow path on right (south) of Levers Water round past copper mines then across weir. Turn right down track to Coppermines Valley past Miners Bridge into Coniston.
