THE CONISTON FELLS  - Walk 15
Paths vary from clear to non-existent. FOR EXPERIENCED WALKERS ONLY 
SD 236995 Birks Bridge Car Park. Turn left (E) along road. Cross stile on right. Follow path through woods to ladder stile (SD 236993). Turn left and follow wall uphill (E). At wire fence cross stile on right. Head SSE for SD 239988 near wall and (wrong!) gate. Turn left uphill for gate behind crag (SD 240988). Turn right on waymarked path to Seathwaite Tarn. 

SD 250989 Seathwaite Tarn  Follow faint path north to shoulder of Troutal Fell (about SD 250994) and follow long wide ridge to summit of Grey Friar. 

NY 260004 Grey Friar Descend along path east from summit and cross to Great Carrs (NY 270009). Follow path south around craggy Broad Slack to Swirl How. From summit take well-used path south over Great How Crags and Brim Fell to Coniston Old Man.

SD 273977 Coniston Old Man Return along path and take left fork for Goats Hawse (SD 266983). Follow path (indistinct in rocky parts) west veering south to Dow Crag summit. Follow clear path south over Buck Pike and Brown Pike. Cross Walna Scar Road and follow ridge SW past White Maiden (SD 254957) on left to White Pike. 

SD 249956 White Pike to Caw Retrace steps for about 100 m and descend to Walna Scar quarries (SD 248958) down steep part scree slope. Cross land bridge in quarry and follow track left SW from quarry. Orienteer to Caw, keeping to NW of the highest land. 

SD 231945 Caw Head west towards Brock Barrow on faint path. Where path splits turn right for steep descent to quarry (SD 229948). Take quarry track W. Turn right on track (SD 223947) to Newfield.

SD 227960 Newfield Inn Turn left on road then take path on right shortly after Inn. Follow paths by river to bridge over Duddon. Turn right at Wallowbarrow sign. Follow clear but sometimes rough path up west side of Duddon and over Birks Bridge (SD 233993). Turn left on road to car park.
