"Scenic railway line features on new CD-ROM"  - Craven Herald - 7/12/01
Jim Redfern's encyclopaedic knowledge of the Settle to Carlisle line has been captured on a new CD.

It features the history of the scenic line, and photographs and focuses on towns and villages along the line.

There's even an quiz to test your knowledge of the famous line, once threatened with closure but now a major tourist attraction. The 72-mile line opened to passenger trains in  1876 and crosses some of the remotest areas in England. It is a masterpiece of Victorian engineering.

The CD was written by Jim, of Long Preston, with help from Dave Mulligan. Mr Mulligan said: "When we finished our first Ingleborough Triangle CD-ROM we decided to combine our passions for walking and writing by covering the Lake District. We completed the Coniston Fells but we only got part way in the "The Langdale Valley" before Foot and Mouth stopped us. So instead we called upon Jim's encyclopaedic knowledge of the Settle to Carlisle Railway. To our surprise it did fit onto a single CD-ROM and we're delighted with the result."
