The Breasthigh Road (an old byway - don't even think of taking a car up it!) leads from Bretherdale to Borrowdale and then to the old Turnpilke Road from Kendal to Carlisle. At the top of the pass you can amble to Dennison Hill on Borrowdale Edge and begin to see the wonderful Borrowdale Valley.
