St.Catherine's Old & New Churches BU76
Crook is a rather diffuse hamlet (including many very attractive old houses) with a central grouping at the Sun Inn, which lies on the minor road (the "Crook" road) between Kendal and Bowness.

The notice on the Old St. Catherine's Church tower (right on the picture on your left) reads:

"OLD ST.CATHERINE'S CHURCH, CROOK

This tower, built around 1620, is all that remains of the old Church which served the Parish from 1516 until 1887 when, because of structural defects, the body of the church had to be demolished. The tower was allowed to remain as a local historical landmark.

It was restored in 1993 with the help of grants from English Heritage and the Lake District Special Planning Board and a generous donation in memory of Judy Logan of Birk Moss, Crook 1963 - 1989."

The old church was built suspiciously near to Crook Hall. The new Church is by the road, but is still an exhilarating distance from the Sun Inn. You can see the replacement Victorian building (less attractive in our opinion) bottom left in the picture above.
