Fly Agaric WF33
This could be Britain's most recognisable Toadstool. Not because most people have seen it, but because it has been used as THE toadstool in the illustrations of countless children's books.

But it is not at all friendly!

I can't do better than to quote from the Collins Gem Guide by John Wilkinson and Stefan Buckzacki:

"The familiar pictures of jolly little men in pointed hats using fly agarics as seats should not disguise the fact that it is highly dangerous"

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! Do not even think of touching or tasting it!

It is mainly found in coniferous forests, particularly by birch trees throughout Europe. Up to about 20 cm across it is highly conspicuous when at its best, but can be much paler in its youth and in its dotage.

Look out for it in the autumn.
